ClassLink Single Sign-On (SSO) lets your staff reach Ellevation with one secure login from your district's ClassLink portal, so people skip a separate Ellevation password and get to work faster.
ℹ️ Note
To log in through ClassLink, a staff member must already have a profile in Ellevation's User Management with an email address that matches their email in ClassLink. People in non-classroom roles, such as EL Specialists, are sometimes excluded from the nightly automated file from a district's SIS, so they may need to be added to Ellevation manually first. See Manage Ellevation Users.

How ClassLink Single Sign-On for Ellevation Works
School districts can set up SSO for district and campus-level staff and classroom teachers. With ClassLink SSO enabled, all staff can access Ellevation through the Ellevation tile in ClassLink. Staff in any role, including Administrators, Specialists, principals, and teachers, can log in this way.
Once the Ellevation app is assigned to the appropriate staff those people can access Ellevation quickly. To access Ellevation through ClassLink, each staff member must have a profile in Ellevation's User Management with an email address that matches their email in ClassLink.
Even after SSO is configured, staff can still access Ellevation through the Ellevation login page if they have set up a Login ID and password. Ellevation Administrators manage user permissions, access levels, user information, and account statuses in User Management. To learn more, see Manage Ellevation Users.
ℹ️ Note
Districts sometimes ask whether ClassLink rostering can update student data in Ellevation. ClassLink rostering does not include important EL-specific data fields, so Ellevation does not support ClassLink student data sync. To learn about automating your student data, see Sync Data from Your Student Information System with Ellevation.
Set Up ClassLink Single Sign-On for Ellevation
Complete the steps below to set up Single Sign-On through ClassLink.
- Review How ClassLink Single Sign-On for Ellevation Works above.
- Determine which user category or categories you want to set up ClassLink SSO for.
- Verify the following for users in the categories you want to set up:
- All staff members have records in Ellevation with associated email addresses.
- All staff members have records in ClassLink with associated email addresses.
- Staff email addresses are the same in ClassLink and Ellevation.
- Request access to add Ellevation as a single sign-on app through your district's ClassLink portal by following ClassLink's setup instructions.
- Add the Ellevation OAuth2 application to your ClassLink portal and assign the app to the appropriate staff.
- Enable Ellevation for roster server access with full permissions to student demographics. Ellevation continues to roster student and staff data from automated SFTP uploads, but the ClassLink API requires roster server access to obtain the required student IDs.
- Share the following with your Ellevation contact:
- Your district's ClassLink OneRoster TenantID.
Then contact your main Ellevation contact for assistance. Be prepared to share the names and contact information for two test users in each user category so Ellevation can work with them to test the integration.
Manage Permissions, Account Types, and School Access for ClassLink Users
Ellevation Administrators can manage ClassLink users' permissions and access levels by making manual updates in User Management or through the staff file automation. To learn more, see Manage Ellevation Users.
Troubleshoot ClassLink Issues
- Unable to Log In: Data in Ellevation Does Not Match the Data in ClassLink
- Users Do Not See an Ellevation Icon in the ClassLink Portal
Unable to Log In: Data in Ellevation Does Not Match the Data in ClassLink
If users cannot log into Ellevation with their ClassLink SSO, Ellevation Administrators can confirm whether the data in Ellevation matches the data in ClassLink and update it as needed.
- Navigate to the User Management page:
- Click the Admin menu icon on the navigation bar.
- Click User Management.
- Select Users.
- Search or use the filters on the left to locate the user.
- If the user does not have an account on the User Management page in Ellevation, they must be added:
- Reach out to your SIS manager to ensure the missing user is included in the nightly staff file automation to Ellevation.
- If the user is in a non-classroom role, such as an EL Specialist, they may be excluded from the nightly automated file and need to be added to Ellevation manually. See Manage Ellevation Users.
- If the user has a duplicate record in Ellevation, see Merge Duplicate User Records.
- If the user has only one Ellevation account, open their profile.
- Check whether the person's email in Ellevation matches their email in ClassLink.
- If the emails do not match, update the user's email in Ellevation, your SIS, and ClassLink so they all match and reflect the person's current email address.
Users Do Not See an Ellevation Icon in the ClassLink Portal
If users report that they cannot see an Ellevation icon in their ClassLink portal, work with your district's data team to:
- Confirm the Ellevation app was shared with the user reporting the issue.
- Confirm your Data Sharing Preferences in ClassLink are configured correctly to share staff data with ClassLink's Ellevation applications.
- Your data team may need to edit Rule-Based Permissions in ClassLink so the right group of users sees the right icon, following ClassLink's Rule-Based Permissions instructions.
