Ellevation supports automated nightly uploads of key data from your Student Information System (SIS) so that student and staff information in Ellevation stays current. Most districts choose to automate some or all of the available data types. This article explains what you can automate, where to find file format requirements, and how to work with Ellevation's Data Integration Team to start, adjust, or pause an automation.

Understand What Data Types You Can Automate
You can set up nightly automation for some or all of the following data types:
- Student demographic information
- Student course schedules
- Staff roster information
- English Language Proficiency (ELP) score data. Ellevation supports all main initial (screener) and summative (annual) ELP tests across the WIDA, ELPA 21, TELPAS, ELPAC, and Las Links ELP frameworks. If your district administers an ELP test that does not have a standard type in Ellevation, you can add up to three Custom ELP Tests.
- Select standardized assessment score data: i-Ready, STAR, and NWEA MAP. Ellevation has data-sharing agreements with i-Ready, STAR, and NWEA MAP that allow you to set up an automated import of these scores directly from the test provider.
ℹ️ Note
You can also send ELP score and standardized test score data from official score files or from your SIS at regular intervals for import. To learn more, see Import Test Result Data into Ellevation. Review File Specifications for Each Data Type
To ensure Ellevation's Data Integration Team can import your data, files must meet minimum format requirements. Review the Data File Specifications documentation for the requirements and available fields for each file type.
Begin Automating a New Data Type
To set up nightly automation for a new data type from your SIS:
- Review the SIS-specific setup instructions for your district's SIS. If your SIS is not listed below, refer to the File Specifications documentation.
- Contact the Ellevation Help Desk so that the Data Integration Team can work with you to set up the automated import and confirm the new data type appears in Ellevation.
ℹ️ Note
Ellevation has data-sharing agreements with i-Ready, STAR, and NWEA MAP that allow you to set up an automated import of these assessment scores directly from the test provider, rather than through your SIS.
Make Changes to a Data Automation
After data automation is set up between your SIS and Ellevation, you may need to add new fields or adjust how existing data is processed.
Add a New Data Field to an Existing Automation
- Review the File Specifications for that data type to confirm the field can be included.
- Confirm that your SIS can include the new field in the nightly file sent to Ellevation.
- Contact the Ellevation Help Desk so that the Data Integration Team can add the field to your file mapping and confirm it appears in Ellevation.
Change How Existing Data Is Processed
To change how a piece of data from your file is processed and imported into Ellevation, contact the Ellevation Help Desk. The Data Integration Team will make the necessary adjustment.
Pause a Data Automation
Some SIS managers choose to pause data automations over the summer — for example, pausing student course schedule automations during the break between school years. If you plan to pause one or more data automations, contact the Ellevation Help Desk to notify the Data Integration Team in advance.
