How Clever Single Sign-On for Ellevation Works

School districts can set up SSO for district and campus-level staff and for classroom teachers. With Clever SSO enabled, all staff can access Ellevation through one of the Ellevation tiles shown below.

All staff (Administrators, Specialists, Principals, Teachers, and others) log in through Ellevation in Clever.

Once Clever SSO is configured for a user category, people in that category can access Ellevation through Clever as long as they have a profile in Ellevation's User Management with an email address that matches their email address in Clever. Some districts choose to enable Clever SSO for a single user category, such as classroom teachers only.

ℹ️ Note

Some staff in non-classroom roles, such as EL Specialists, cannot always be included in the nightly automated file from a district's SIS. In those cases, they must be added to Ellevation manually before they can access it through Clever. To learn how, see Manage Ellevation Users.

Many users prefer to access Ellevation through Clever once SSO is configured, but they can still sign in on the Ellevation login page with their Login ID and password. Administrators can continue to manage user permissions, access levels, user information, and account statuses in User Management. To learn more, see Manage Ellevation Users.

ℹ️ Note

Districts sometimes ask about using Clever student data sync to update student data in Ellevation. Clever student data sync (Clever Rostering) exposes only a limited set of student data fields and does not include important EL-specific fields, so Ellevation does not support Clever student data sync. To learn about automating your student data, see Sync Data from Your Student Information System with Ellevation.

Users Not Seeing the Ellevation Icon in Clever

If users report that they cannot see any Ellevation icon in their Clever portal, work with your district's data team to:

  1. Confirm the Ellevation app was shared with the users reporting the Clever issue.
  2. Confirm your Data Sharing Preferences in Clever are configured correctly to share staff data with Clever's Ellevation applications, following Clever's data sharing instructions:
    • Make sure you share the appropriate staff emails with the corresponding Ellevation application (classroom teachers with Ellevation InClass, and all other users with Ellevation).
    • Your data team may need to set up a Share by Rule in Clever to ensure the right group of users sees the right icon, following Clever's Share by Rule instructions.
