To keep your EL program assessment data current, you can assign Ellevation Benchmark assessments to your English learners (ELs) and track their progress throughout the year. This article walks you through identifying students, then assigning Benchmark assessments from either the Student List or the Benchmark page.

Identify Students for Benchmark (Student List View)
The Student List is the recommended starting point for the Benchmark assignment process. Saving a Student List View with the appropriate Filters and Fields in place lets you keep up with scores as they come in and compare them against other data points.
From the Student List, use the following Filters:
- EL (ML, MLL, EB, LEP) Status is any of EL (ML, MLL, EB, LEP, ELL Current). Benchmark is designed specifically for English learners; non-EL students do not need to take the assessment and can be filtered out.
- Grade Level. You might want to assign an assessment to only certain grade levels. Benchmark is currently intended for grades 2-12, and the system automatically filters out students in grades K-1.
- (Optionally) Filter by Proficiency / Domain scores from previous ELP summative results (for example, TELPAS or ACCESS) to group students who may need the same assessment domains, such as all students who need the Speaking domain.
To see any current Benchmark assessment progress in your list, use the following optional Fields:

Benchmark score results now display the assessment window name (BOY, MOY, EOY, or your district's custom label) instead of a date, so you can quickly see which window a student's existing score is from before assigning a new assessment.

- Be sure to select the correct consortia fields (for example, ELPAC or ELPA21) to see how previous scores align with potential Benchmark tiers.
Once you have applied your Filters and Fields, save the View so you can use it later to set up Benchmark assignments for the students in the list.
💡 Quick Tip
Give the View a clear name, such as "Reading MOY Benchmark Group," so it is easy to find when you return to assign assessments.

Assign Benchmark Assessments From the Student List
You can assign a Benchmark assessment in two ways: from the Student List or from the Benchmark page. This section explains how to do it from the Student List. To learn how to do it from the Benchmark page, go here.
To assign a Benchmark assessment to individual students, check the boxes next to the names of the students you want to assess.
To bulk-assign multiple students, check the box next to Student above the list. If your list contains more than 25 students, select the select all students across pages link to ensure all students are selected.
Once the desired students are selected, click Edit above the Student List, then Assign Benchmark Assessment.
Assign Benchmark Assessments From the Benchmark Page
You can assign a Benchmark assessment in two ways: from the Student List or from the Benchmark page. To learn how to do it from the Student List, go here.
This section explains how to assign students directly from the Benchmark page.
- Click the Add Students button on the Benchmark homepage or within a testing window.
- Toggle between Student Search to find specific students and Student List View to use the saved View you previously created.
- Configure which specific domains (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) you want to assign to the selected students.
- Review your domain and student selections before finalizing.
- Click Add Students to complete the process and add the selected students to the testing window.
ℹ️ Note
The system automatically prevents duplicate assignments. If any selected students have already been added to the testing window, a duplicate assignment will not be created for them.
