Testing windows control when students can access Benchmark assessments and when tier automation pulls the latest data. Setting accurate window dates keeps your assessment cycle organized and ensures results reflect each student's current language growth.

ℹ️ Note

Permission to assign Benchmark assessments varies by Account Type. Contact your Ellevation Administrator with questions about your Account Type or permissions.

As an Administrator, you define the start date, end date, and name for the beginning of year (BOY), middle of year (MOY), and end of year (EOY) assessment windows. Set dates serve as visual reminders and do not automatically open or close a window.

💡 Quick Tip

Ellevation recommends a testing window of 9 to 12 weeks, but you can configure dates that fit your district's calendar.

📝 Setting and opening a testing window.

Set Up a Testing Window

Navigate to ⚙️ Admin Settings > Benchmark Settings > Manage Testing Windows.

Click Edit to set or adjust the name and dates of the testing window.

Fill out the name and testing window dates, then click Save.

ℹ️ Note

The window name you enter here now displays alongside Benchmark score results in the Student List, in place of a raw date. Choose a clear name for each window, such as BOY, MOY, or EOY, so results are easy for educators to read at a glance.

Open a Testing Window

To begin a testing period, you must manually open the window. This action makes assignments available to students and ensures that tier automation uses the most recent and accurate data available at that moment. Students cannot access Benchmark assessments unless the window is open.

Close a Testing Window

Once the testing period ends, you must manually close the window. The system displays a warning prompt if any students still have an In Progress status.

⚠️ Warning

Once a window is manually closed, it cannot be reopened. Confirm that all students have completed their assessments before closing.
