Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports are modifications to tests or testing conditions that allow ELs to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on standardized assessments. This article covers how to assign, edit, and delete Testing Accommodation/Designated Support assignments for individual students and groups.

Testing Accommodations or Designated Supports is a customizable label that your Ellevation Administrator can optionally configure. The terms used in your district may not exactly match the terminology in the Ellevation Resource Center.

Assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports for Individual Students
To keep your EL program records current, users with edit access to Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports can assign or update them on the Student Profile for individual students, or in the Student List for multiple students at once.
ℹ️ Note
If your school district gathers teacher input on Designated Supports by sending Recommendation Forms in Ellevation, see Request Teacher Input on Designated Supports before assigning manually.
To assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports for an individual student:
- Navigate to the student's Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports tab. You can get there in two ways:

Search for the student:
- Use the search bar at the top right of your screen to find the student by name or ID number.
- Click the student's name to open their profile in the current tab, or click the Open icon to the right to open in a new tab.
- Click the Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports tab.

Locate the student in the Student List:
- Apply Filters on the left to narrow down your list and quickly find the student.
- Hover over the student's name.
- Click the arrow to the right of the Student button that appears.
- Select Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports to open the tab in a new tab.

Search for the student:
- Click + Add New Test at the top of the tab.
- Select the Time Period using the Year and Semester dropdowns.
- The default Time Period is determined by the School Year Start and End Dates in Account Settings and defaults to Year. If the default year is incorrect, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator. To update School Year Start and End Dates, see Configure Account Settings.
- Select a test from the dropdown.
- The list of standardized tests is configured by your Ellevation Administrator. If you need to add accommodations for a test that is not on the list, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator. To customize the available tests, see Configure Standardized Tests.
- Select the Testing Accommodation(s)/Designated Support(s) to assign for this test.
- Search or scroll to find the items you want, then click the checkbox(es) to the left of each one.
- The list is configured by your Ellevation Administrator and includes all accommodations your district has set up. Items that are unavailable for the selected test will be greyed out and cannot be assigned.
- If you need an item that is not on the list or is greyed out, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator.
- To customize the district's accommodation list, see Configure Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports.
- To customize which accommodations are available for each standardized test, see Configure Standardized Tests.
- Click Save.
Assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports for Multiple Students at Once
The Student List lets you batch-assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports to many students at once, saving time when updating records at the start of a testing cycle.

To batch assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports for multiple students at once:
- Navigate to the Student List by clicking Students on the navigation bar, then selecting Student List.
- Use Filters on the left to narrow your list to the students you want to update.
- Expand All filter options and scroll, or use search to find the filter you want, then click its name.
- Select the appropriate options. For simple flags, choose Yes or No. For more complex filters, select the option that best fits your needs and enter the appropriate value(s). Some filters can be further refined by time period or assessment.
- Click Done.
- Select the students you want to update.
- To select all students matching your filters, click the checkbox at the top left of the Student List. If results span multiple pages, click Select all students that meet this search across pages.
- To select specific students, use the checkboxes on the left side of the list.
- Click Edit at the top of the student list, then select Assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports.
- Select the Time Period using the Year and Semester dropdowns.
- The default Time Period is determined by the School Year Start and End Dates in Account Settings and defaults to Year. If the default year is incorrect, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator. To update School Year Start and End Dates, see Configure Account Settings.
- Choose how to assign accommodations.

To assign new Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports (single test):
- Keep Select new (single test) selected.
- If you want to replace any existing accommodations for the selected test and time period, check the Replace existing Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports checkbox.
- Click Next.
- Select a test from the dropdown. If the test you need is not listed, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator. To customize the available tests, see Configure Standardized Tests.
- Select the Testing Accommodation(s)/Designated Support(s) to assign. Search or scroll to find the items you want, then click the checkbox(es) to the left of each one. Items that are unavailable for the selected test will be greyed out.
- If you need an item that is not on the list or is greyed out, reach out to your Ellevation Administrator.
- To customize the district's accommodation list, see Configure Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports.
- To customize which accommodations are available per test, see Configure Standardized Tests.
- Click Assign Test and Testing Accommodations.

To copy accommodations from a previous time period (multiple tests):
- Select Copy existing (multiple tests).
- Click Next.
- Select the Time Period to copy from using the Year and Semester dropdowns.
- Click Next.
- Click the checkbox to the left of the acknowledgment.
- Click Copy Test and Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports.

To assign new Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports (single test):
Edit or Delete Testing Accommodation/Designated Support Assignments
⚠️ Warning
Deleting a Testing Accommodation/Designated Support assignment cannot be undone. Confirm you have selected the correct record before clicking Delete in the confirmation popup.
To edit or delete Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports assigned for a test:
- Navigate to the student's Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports tab. You can get there by searching for the student or locating them in the Student List (see Assign Testing Accommodations/Designated Supports for Individual Students above).
- Locate the test record you want to change.

- Click Edit to the right of the test record.
- Make the necessary changes.
- Click Save.

- Click Delete in the confirmation popup.
